Making connections

I was learning to make connections in a text. I can compare a character to what they were like before big changes happened to them and what they are like now.  It was tricky because I didn't know what sentences to write.

Summarise Information

I was  learning to summarise information. I can find the main ideas in the text. I can identify the key ideas in the text. I can use the keywords and main ideas to summarise information. It was easy because the book helped me to find the answers.

Making predictions

I was predict what I think is going to happen in the story by looking at the cover. It was easy because the pictures helped me to predict what was going to happen.

Describing The Plot

I was learning to describe the plot in the story. I can describe the problem and the solution.  It was easy to describe the plot in the story because I was able to explain what the problems in the story were and how they fixed these problems.

I am learning to retell the story.

I am learning to play reading games by myself.

Reading Eggs are one of our favourite activities to play on the laptops.

"I am learning to play reading games by myself. I like this game because it sings songs. I am learning how to get eggs, I feel proud when I get eggs. It is easy because I know my rhyming words. If I find something tricky I can ask the teacher or get friends to help me."

I am learning to answer questions to show my understanding.

"I am learning to answer questions about the book. I am proud of myself for reading lots of words. I find it tricky to read the words I haven't read before. The teacher can help by showing me how to sound out the word."

I am learning about non fiction and fiction texts

"I like reading because it helps me with my spelling. I sometimes find some words tricky to say."

Reading Games.

We play games at Reading time to help us to get smarter at Reading!

"I am playing the game where you put the months in the right order, like January, February, March.  I am good at this game because I have played it before.  Next time I would like to play the ladybug game because it is pretty!"

Reading Eggs.

We are learning to use Reading Eggs at school and at home.  I can choose the games I want to play and my friend can choose the same game or a different game.  Some games have alphabet letters and some games have words.  For the really hard games, I have to read a whole sentence.

" I am doing Reading Eggs at school.  I can log in by myself.  I like to play on the ipad the best.  I like to listen to the books."

Look What I Can Read!

"I am finding the word-of-the-week and it is - went.  It is easy for me because I listen to the teacher and I can remember the word.  Mum and Dad can help me."

I Can Read.

I am learning to read and write the word - can - this week at school.  Here it is in my reading book.

"Reading is easy for me because I know some of the words now.  At home I read to Dad."

Choosing a Book to Read.

I am going to the Pakuranga Library to choose a book to read at my house.

We are trying to read the hard words. We can look at the pictures to help us. We can look at the sound and try out the word. We like to read.
